School Ball!

Well, high school ball has officially started! Woo hoo!

Interesting changes this year - looks like Coach Irvin has resigned/retired from the public school system and Coach Henry is stepping up to take over the team!

I coached with Coach Henry many years ago (the first year my daughter played!) and he's really good with the girls. Many of the things he taught those 8 year olds I still harp on my 14's about every practice!

We're excited about the year - the girls will have a strong coaching staff, we've got some great girls coming back and some new talent coming in!

The girls are doing 2-a-day practices until school starts, and with a 100 inning scrimmage coming up this Wednesday in Jenks, they'd better hit the ground running!

I'm looking forward to watching!

Picasa web album - softball pictures!

Here are some pics I finally got off of my phone... Some stuff from mid-deluge (the great wet Spring of 2007) and a 6/u tournament my 14/u team hosted!

Little ones...

The coach of my 5 year old's team (Hit-N-Run) asked if I would help coach fall ball with them this year.

I was very pleased to accept!

"Hit-N-Run" will be playing 6/u ball out of Owasso this fall, and they've just started practice after the spring ball season ended a month ago.

There are few things better than seeing little ones having fun playing ball and REALLY enjoying it.

At this age, I believe the way to do that is to make it fun!

Last night the girls were working hard on fielding, and situations and I could tell they were getting a little tired... Their attention started to wander and many holes were dug in the field.

Once they got finished up, I thought it might be fun to play a game with them - so I have a girl a ball and said "tag me!" and took a couple of steps. She got me, and then I took the ball, tossed it to the next girl and said "Tag me!" and did the same thing.

They got to giggling and chasing me and having fun!

Then I started trying to knock the ball out of their hand (gently, just to make sure they had a good grip)! The first one that fell I hollered "I'm safe - you dropped the ball!" and kept running a bit....

They all got this look on their faces of "Oh!" and then started tagging me harder!

It was fun... Next time we'll do it with gloves and we'll talk about keeping the ball trapped!

If we're not having fun, what are we doing out here?

See ya,

Coach Tim
